  With winter fast approaching, here are some tips to help keep your pets safe and healthy:  Check your pets paws frequently for signs of cold weather injuries which include cracked paw pads or bleeding After every walk, be sure to wipe down your dogs paws of any ice or salt that could have gotten in between their paws. Another solution to this could be to get booties for their feet. This will help with salt and ice, and minimize wiping down their paws. If they have a short coat, one thing to consider would be a sweater or coat (can be purchased at at any supercenter chain or pet store).  Be sure their collars are up to date with the most recent information, such as address and cell phone number. Pets can get lost at any time of the year, ice and snow can hide recognizable smells that once was able to guide them home. What is heartworm disease?         Heartworm disease is a very serious and oftentimes fatal disease caused by a foot-long worm residing in the heart, lung, and blood vessels associated with those organs. This can cause severe damage to those organs including heart failure and severe lung disease. Dogs are natural hosts for these worms. Being natural hosts means these worms live inside the dog mature into adults, mate, and produce offspring. If untreated, the number of worms can increase and cause blockages which can lead to these diseases. Fall 2021 Tips for Pets

Happy first day of Fall! With the changing of the seasons and the leaves, there are plenty of scares and unknowns lying around, including ticks. During the fall, it is especially important to continue applying topical such as  frontline  or give chewable flea and tick preventatives such as credelio ,  simparica  or bravecto. While it may still be fairly warm, during the late fall we can still see cooler weather. Try to minimize time outside especially when the weather is cooler, especially late at night or when the weather is freezing. This can minimize the chances of getting frostbite on the paws. We have been seeing many lost pets lately. Make sure if your pet has been  microchipped , that you have been updating information to ensure your furry friend is returned to you.  Keep all school supplies away from pets.
